Types of Massage Offered

This type of massage moves the water in our body that can get congested to provide a healthier environment for the lymph system and the immune system.

The fascia is the connective tissue that is found throughout our body. It encompasses everything all the way down to our cellular structure. The myo is muscle. We focus on the fascia that’s involved with the muscle, which also creates the tightness.

As a gentle deep tissue technique, myofascial release is designed to release tightness in the muscles. Different types of pressure are used to help relieve muscle dysfunction.

Given the many aches and pains pregnant women experience, prenatal massage provides a relaxing way for the mom to release stress in areas that are starting to build up in the body. Best of all, it’s safe, drug-free and non-invasive. Rest assured that no deep tissue massage is done. With prenatal massage, the expectant mom lies on her side and the massage is done gently.

Massage cannot be given within the first trimester, as it’s unsafe to do so. However, prenatal massage is safe during the second and third trimesters.

Moms-to-be will be assessed to determine their level of risk. Those under 18 and over 35 are at higher risk. They would need an okay from their doctor before getting a massage.

This technique specifically targets hypersensitive areas within muscles that form regularly. By finding these trigger points, we can work on and relieve the nerve pain and dysfunction.

FAQ

How do I need to prepare for my massage?

There’s nothing special you need to do. Just plan to arrive a few minutes early. We will give you a form to fill out before you see Andrea. You’ll let her know what’s brought you in.

Is massage appropriate for all ages?

Yes! Babies can have massage as can young children. Adults and seniors can have massage as well. Andrea once gave a massage to a 97-year-old!

Do I have to undress completely?

You can undress to your comfort level. Andrea will accommodate your preference. If, for example, you’re just getting work done on your upper body, you may want to leave your pants on. If it’s an area that she needs to work on, the clothes need to be off.

How is massage therapy an important adjunctive service to chiropractic care?

If you have a joint that’s out of alignment, some muscles are going to be creating forces on that misalignment. A chiropractor will adjust, and the joints will move, but those muscles will only let the joints move so far. They can be very restrictive if they’re very tight.

Restricted joints will limit the adjustment and it won’t last as long. When massage is given prior to an adjustment, however, the adjustment can last longer because the muscle tension is released.

Does insurance cover massage?

In California it is very difficult for in network chiropractic offices to get paid for massage. Therefore, we only accept self-payment for massage. The only exception to this is people who have been in an accident and are treating under that accident case.
