Chiropractic BioPhysics® (CBP®)
A Research-Driven Approach to Spinal Health
Chiropractic Biophysics® (CBP®) is the most researched chiropractic technique, uniquely focused on correcting spinal curvatures to align closer to an ideal spine model. While many techniques address general spinal health, few have the scientific backing to demonstrate their effectiveness in achieving measurable spinal correction. Certified in CBP, Dr. Matt Alexander brings this evidence-based expertise to every treatment plan.
This approach combines three core methods—exercise, adjustments, and traction—used in a “mirror image” pose. This innovative technique strengthens and stretches key muscles, resets the nervous system, and promotes long-lasting postural improvements.
Understanding How the Techniques Are Used
- Mirror Image Exercises—targeted exercises address muscle imbalances by moving the spine in the exact opposite direction of its current misalignment. For example, if your head is forward, exercises will focus on retracting it backward to restore balance.
- Precise Chiropractic Adjustments—are performed using tools like a drop table or ArthroStim machine, with patients positioned in their mirror image. This technique stimulates posture-controlling mechanoreceptors, helping the nervous system support improved spinal alignment.
- Traction Therapy—involves gently stretching the spine using specialized equipment, applied for a few minutes up to 20 minutes per session. Traction devices are also available for at-home use, ensuring continuity of care beyond the clinic.
Adapting This Therapy for Our Patients
We’ve adopted a modified version of CBP to better accommodate our patients’ schedules and budgets. While some clinics offer full in-office sessions, we focus on providing expert adjustments during office visits and guiding patients in performing exercises and traction at home. This approach maintains effectiveness while keeping care more affordable and convenient.
Offering Special Skilled Care for Scoliosis
While our practice emphasizes comprehensive spine care, it’s worth noting that scoliosis treatment is available at our Livermore clinic. This includes advanced in-office traction and special equipment designed for scoliosis patients.
